Powderpuff, Pep-Rallies, and Playoffs: An Inside Look!

While the year has been starting to pick up, Hoggard fall sports have wasted no time flying up the charts and even highly-rated country ranks in our state.

In the Football category we are currently ranked number seventeen in all of North Carolina, number eleven in all of North Carolina Division Four A Rankings, and number one in Wilmington Football. (Maxpreps) We also have an overall record of winning four to one with our one loss being to Cleveland in a close thirty two to thirty five game. This month we can eagerly look forward to games against Ashley, (10/11) Topsail, (10/18) and South Brunswick. (10/25) The themes for these games will be posted on the Student Council instagram page shortly.

Men’s soccer has also been booming, starting off the season as number one in the nation. We are now number three in North Carolina and number fifteen in the nation with an impressive record of nine to one! Hoggard student Adler Sauer, a starting defensive center-back stated, “I think our team is very strong and I think we have a good shot at becoming state champions.”

Women’s golf, on their continuous winning streak, will have their MEC Golf Conference Tournament October 14th which will lead them into Regionals later this month.

Women’s Volleyball will also have their MEC Tournament the week of October 14th, followed by playoffs the next week.

Women’s tennis is looking forward to a tournament on October 10th that will determine certain players' potential spots in Regionals.

Cross Country is looking forward to their MEC Championships at Long Leaf Park on October 10th. From there, they will be pushing on to Regionals scheduled on October 26th, and then States the following weekend.

As October begins, Hoggard has many exciting festivities to look forward to. Homecoming week brings school spirit and traditions, one of which is Powder Puff Football. Powder Puff is sponsored by Student Council and is a competitive flag football game between our senior and junior class girls. While the girls play, Mr. Acker and Mr. Mason will be coaching along with the football team. With this switch up, junior and senior boys are also being asked to take the place of cheerleaders for the game. You can look forward to a PT’s food truck and lots of laughs during this once-a-year tradition. The game will take place at seven o’clock on Wednesday, October 16th and tickets will be on sale for five dollars.

The long-awaited homecoming football game will take place Friday, October 18th against Topsail High School. Along with some special performances, the homecoming court winners will be announced during halftime at this game.

Prior to this event, Hoggard administration will also be cutting our school day a bit short to encourage our school spirit during our first pep rally of the school year. Our traditional homecoming pep rally will feature games, dances, cheers, and much more that all athletes and students can look forward to. Some highlights from last year’s pep rally include teacher dances, homecoming court competitions, and our very own dance team's impressive routine.
