Hockey is the best sport to watch, hands down. Recently, my friends and I went to Raleigh to watch the Hurricanes take on the Rangers at the Lenovo Center. This was the first professional hockey game I’d ever attended, but it definitely won’t be my last.
Walking into the massive arena, we made my way to the very top, where my $89 seat was waiting. (While initially shocked at the ticket price, I have decided it was worth every penny!) I settled in to watch the action, not really knowing what to expect. Before this, I had never watched or cared much about hockey, but within two minutes, I was on the edge of my seat, completely hooked. I can confidently say that anyone could go to a hockey game and have an absolute blast.
Hockey is a fast-paced sport with three 20-minute periods and breaks in between. It might sound like a lot of time, but trust me, the minutes fly by. With the puck rocketing across the ice at speeds of up to 100 mph and players gliding, weaving, and battling for possession, the game is endlessly engaging. A match can shift in the blink of an eye—one quick move, an agile pass, or a perfect shot can change everything. Watching it all unfold is both beautiful and mesmerizing. During the 15-minute intermissions, you can grab food, chat with friends, or take a stretch. These breaks were a great chance to catch up and talk about the game, adding to the overall experience. The structure of a hockey game is well-paced and keeps you fully engaged the entire time.
My favorite part of the game was when the home team scored. It happened so fast—the pass, the wind-up, the shot—and then the entire stadium erupted. Every man, woman, and child was on their feet, screaming, cheering, and heckling the opposing team. The energy in the arena was electric and infectious, unlike anything I’d ever experienced. The game itself was a nail-biter. Going into the final period, the Canes were down 2-3, but in the closing minutes, they staged an epic comeback to win 4-3. It was pure excitement from start to finish.
If you’re looking for fun, thrilling, and a one-time splurge, I highly recommend checking out a hockey game. It’s an experience that’ll leave you wanting more.
