The recent support for Hoggard’s women’s basketball team is a hooper's dream! With a hype send off, a school-sponsored watch party, and an excused trip to go watch the team’s recent game in Winston-Salem, the women’s eastern regional game was a suspenseful one.
Although our team fell to Wakefield in a 31-23 game, Hoggard still stands in 3rd place in the conference. Despite this loss, I can personally say our women’s team still has the students' full support. Our principal, Mr. Madden would agree, since he seems to be the biggest fan of all. He provided forty students an excused, paid trip to go watch the basketball game in Winston-Salem, and was essential in bringing school spirit to this sporting event.
One of the Varsity players, junior Tristan Shivers, has had quite the accomplishments recently. With her help, the team reached 1000 game points during a recent win against North Brunswick, ultimately bringing our team to the Conference Tournament Semifinals. On top of that, Tristan was named the 2024-25 District 2 Player of the Year by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association after playing an incredible season.
Star senior Emmy Seward will be graduating this year, but her 73 points, 139 rebounds, and 32 games played this season will not be forgotten. With graduates leaving and freshmen joining, this next season the girls will not only be playing a game, but practicing leadership, trust, and team bonding.
With determination, hard work, and much support along the way, Hoggard’s women’s basketball team is guaranteed to come back even stronger next season. Consider attending more games this school year to show off Hoggard’s school spirit and support your fellow classmates who work hard at their sport! Besides, what are sports without fans to cheer their favorite team on?
