Since early 2020, our lives have been forever changed and affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation is much better than it was three years ago, hospitalizations due to new variants of this disease are rising rapidly. Although these numbers are significantly lesser than what they used to be, they are still a cause for reasonable concern.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been over fifteen thousand patients admitted to hospitals throughout the United States due to Covid-19. Many areas across the nation have been affected, such as Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and even Nebraska. Fortunately, COVID-related hospitalizations have only slightly increased in North Carolina, but we cannot afford to be careless when it comes to our safety. While rising cases do not necessarily mean that we will go into lockdown again, we cannot pretend that this dangerous disease and its numerous variants do not have serious impacts.
Fortunately, there are several simple ways to protect yourself and those around you. Something as basic as washing your hands regularly can make a huge difference. Even bringing hand sanitizer with you in public and staying a few feet away from people in crowded areas are fantastic ways to prevent catching COVID-19. Purchasing a nasal spray that prevents COVID or wearing a mask in congested indoor spaces can greatly reduce the risk of getting this illness. At home, you can clean and wipe down any areas that are frequently touched, avoid touching your face without washing your hands first, and stay home whenever you feel sick.
COVID-19 has not and may never disappear from our lives; this disease is the epitome of uncertainty. However, we all must do the best we can to be cautious and prioritize our health. By keeping ourselves safe and healthy, we can bring this sickness to a halt. Remember, it’s not quite over yet.
