Homecoming and prom are both major events in any high schooler's career, and while dresses, tuxedos, and bouquets are very important, finding the perfect place for dinner is just as crucial. Recently, my friends and I attended Homecoming and discovered an affordable restaurant that was the perfect start to our evening.
Quanto Basta is an Italian restaurant located downtown that I believe is great for any occasion. The layout of the restaurant is impressive, featuring a wraparound glass walkway and seating in the middle. It creates a comfortable yet classy atmosphere that makes trying new foods an enjoyable experience.
The menu at Quanto Basta strikes a perfect balance — not too large, yet offering a variety of options that cater to everyone. At our table, we ordered crab dip as an appetizer, and I chose Penne alla Vodka as my entrée. The crab dip was absolutely delicious, packed with crab and cheese, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. My only complaint was that there were only six crackers served with a decent-sized bowl of dip, which meant we had to ration them.
On the other hand, my main course had generous portions and met all my expectations. The sauce had a delightful fresh tomato flavor blended with sharp Parmesan, making it truly memorable. While the pasta was superb, the bread served with every meal was less impressive — it was large, unwieldy, and had a dry texture with little flavor. However, the delicious pasta made up for the mediocre bread, especially at a reasonable price of $13.
In addition to the restaurant's fantastic atmosphere, its downtown location at 107 North 2nd Street adds to its appeal. After finishing our meals, my friends and I took a stroll around the area, capturing photos against the stunning sunset and the beautiful Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in the background. I don’t visit Downtown often, but it truly is a vibrant and fun place to shop, dine, and explore for people of all ages.
Overall, Quanto Basta is an excellent restaurant in a fantastic part of Wilmington, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a dining destination for Prom or Homecoming.
