What Made You Smile Today: Happy Moments of a Community

Moments of happiness can be found anytime, anywhere: a butterfly landing on you during your daily walk, a long distance friend spontaneously reaching out to you, or maybe even the realization that your unfinished assignment isn’t due for another week. Moments like these can easily be forgotten when shadowed by stressful or bad instances you may have had that day. So, in this short article, a few Hoggard High School students & staff members have come together to share a glimpse into what made them happy today.

“When I woke up this morning and got in my car, I realized I wasn't out of gas.” - Reyce Hooks
“My dad gave me cocha (Mexican sweet bread) today! It made me happy because he always does things like that without asking, he always heightens my standards.” - Ashley Rodriguez
“My teacher fixed a grade I've been stressing about.” - Jack Snowden
“I ended up getting an A on a quiz in Anatomy that I forgot about and was really scared for.” - Devon Sherburne
“Something that made me happy today was that I finished my book. I have been wanting to read this book for a long time, so it was really exciting to get to read it!” - Andrew Morris
“This morning I was able to stay home for a bit, I got to sleep in and spend time eating breakfast with my mom and grandma instead of going into school super early. I enjoyed spending time with them, cleaning up the house, and the nice morning weather before heading to class. And getting my daily coffee made things better!” - Lula Rivera
After reading about just a few moments that brought students joy, it’s evident that no matter the person or the kind of day you’re having, everyone has SOMETHING to appreciate about the day. From small wins to huge accomplishments, try your best to acknowledge the good parts of your day rather than the negative. You’d be surprised just how much reflecting on the positive parts of your day will uplift your mood and spirit.
