Hoggard’s 2026 homecoming week was nothing short of amazing. Between bustling spirit days and silly pep rally performances, this year’s festivities were surely one for the books. Let’s dive into everything that made this traditional high school event extra memorable!

Spirit Days:

Spirit week is always a fun way to get involved and show some school spirit. This year, the halls of Hoggard high were busy with many festive and energetic students who were not afraid to represent some viking pride.

The 2026 homecoming spirit days included:

  • “Mardi Gras Monday”

  • “Toes Out Tourist Tuesday”

  • “White Lie Wednesday”

  • “Team Jersey Thursday”

  • “Hoggard Spirit Friday”

Powderpuff Game:

The annual powderpuff game is one of Hoggard’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Students from the senior and junior classes battled it out in a friendly game of flag football on Tuesday evening. They were given the chance to practice on Monday, gaining valuable coaching and tips from players on the football team. The junior girls took the lead at first, which led the seniors to play even stronger. Halftime consisted of a select team of football players who performed a series of cheer stunts and striking dance moves. The exciting game concluded with a win for the senior girls, the final score being a close 26-20!

Pep Rally:

On Friday afternoon during fourth period, students packed the gym with infectious energy, eager to watch the many engaging performances ahead of them. The game day pep rally went off without a hitch thanks to the student council. An effective way to encourage school spirit, the viking pep rally featured games, dances, cheers, and several more performances that included students, fall athletes, and teachers. A few favorite highlights included creative team matches, homecoming court competitions, and an impressive routine by our talented cheer and dance teams.

Homecoming Football Game:

On Friday night, the Hoggard Vikings fought for the astonishing 40-7 win against Topsail high school in Scott Braswell stadium. This annual game consisted of special traditions alongside the usual intensity on the field. Halftime held energetic performances by our very own cheerleaders, dancers, marching band members, and more. The 2026 homecoming king and queen, as well as the prince and princess were announced, leaving fans and students on the edge of their seats. Sophia Diparisi and Andrew Thigpen were awarded princess and prince, and Jaqi Zarate and Amir Johnson were crowned queen and king. Amir Johnson shared that, “being crowned Hoggard’s 2026 homecoming king is an honor I’ll never forget, and I’m grateful for the love and support of my classmates, friends, and family. Being a king is about more than a crown, it's about how you treat others, the example you set, and the legacy you leave behind, and I’m proud to be a Viking!” Viking seniors were encouraged to dress in togas, and all other grades flooded the student section in pink. There is nothing quite like coming out and supporting Hoggard Friday night lights football!

Homecoming Dance:

This year’s homecoming dance theme was “A Night Under The Stars.” From decorative balloons to a make-your-own beverage bar, the atmosphere in the cafeteria on Saturday night was electric. Students sang and danced their hearts out to classic songs to wrap up another successful homecoming week. Special thanks to the Hoggard PTSO for making the dance possible!

This fun-filled week is just one of the amazing ways students get to show their viking pride, start off each school year in an exciting way, and most importantly, keep traditions alive!
