Local Coffee Shops to Visit This Fall

It’s that time of year again! Here comes the smell of pumpkin spice, the taste of apple cinnamon, and the feeling of a warm mug in your hands. If you’ve been ready to take your typical coffee order to the next level this fall– whether you’re looking for atmosphere, efficiency, or a small town feel– here are a few places to consider visiting the next time you crave that warm, fall feeling:

Maroon Monkey Coffee

Located along the riverwalk of downtown Wilmington, Maroon Monkey is a cozy coffee shop that embraces  the ‘Wilmington spirit’ with its unique, warm, and rustic ambience.

They are known for their freshly roasted coffee, made-to-order lattes, and excellent service. Sophomore Rose Powers praised, “Their chai tea latte is to die for, my mom and I have tried almost all of the chai tea lattes at all the coffee shops [around town], and this one is the best.” Offering creative latte options such as Bananas Foster, French Toast, Fall Festival, and even more fun flavors: There is sure to be a latte for every taste. If you’re into local, Maroon Monkey’s locally-sourced coffee cake is also a great choice. Not only does this cafe offer great service, but the comfortable cafe welcomes your furry friends with a free pup cup alongside any purchase.

All in all, Maroon Monkey is comfortable for any occasion, with its indoor and outdoor seating accompanied by a warm latte or baked good to top off the inviting, small town feel.

Hidden Grounds Coffee

Hidden Grounds Coffee, a dinosaur themed cafe, is all about atmosphere. After placing your order, make your way up the stairs and out to the exciting, green oasis riddled with dinosaur figures hidden on every corner. The shaded splendor of comfortable outdoor seating– swing chairs, outdoor sofas, and bar-style seats– is more than ideal for an afternoon sip and study session or as an excellent spot to hang with friends. Sophomore Kennedy Tobias remarked, “The drinks are adventurous and warm, and the atmosphere is comforting and welcoming. Such a fun place.”

As of October 2nd, Hidden Grounds’s fall drink menu is out and ready for you to savor. Featuring universal favorite seasonal flavors of pumpkin, maple, apple cinnamon, marshmallow, and more. Your fall palette is sure to be satisfied!

Scooter’s Coffee

Scooter’s Coffee is a rapidly growing, Carolina-born drive-thru coffee chain that has made its way to College Road. Scooter’s makes it a priority to have your coffee, smoothie, tea, or “dollar delight” served with a smile. Senior Evy Renneker comments, “[…] my go-to, an iced vanilla latte, never fails to disappoint. I appreciate how convenient and easy it is, as Scooter’s is completely a drive-thru and they get your drinks out very quickly.”

Scooter’s limited-time, fall flavors are now available. Which includes the flavors pumpkin caramelicious, pumpkin spice latte, and pumpkin chai that are offered alongside with many year-round flavors. All of which can be made to the customers preference: hot, iced, or blended. With their exciting kid’s menu options, they have something to offer for the whole family. Scooter’s even offers a variety of breakfast options, a couple being a bacon burrito, omelet bites, maple waffle sandwich, or a bacon ciabatta sandwich.
