It’s the holiday season! You know the season is here once the streets are decorated with Christmas lights, holiday shopping is on the to-do list, and family and friends come to visit. Luckily, Wilmington offers a variety of fun things to do–solo or with family and friends–to get into the holiday spirit and make the most of the holiday season. Here are five Holiday things to do and see in Wilmington this winter:
Watch a local Christmas show
A classic winter-themed activity is to watch a show! The Wilson Center, as well as Thalian
Hall, are hosting many Christmas-themed shows this year, ranging from classic Christmas plays like A Christmas Carol to ballets such as The Nutcracker. This is also a great way to support the community and something that the whole family can enjoy together.
Winter Fest @ The Cargo District
If a busy Christmas party is more your style, check out the Winter Fest downtown in the Cargo District this year! It runs from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, all decked out with local vendors, holiday activities, and food and drinks. Even better, admission is free! While you are there, go check out Cargo District’s amazing local restaurants and small businesses, and maybe you’ll find some perfect holiday gifts!

Nights of Lights @ Bellamy Mansion
If you want to do something cute, cozy, and historic all in one, visit Bellamy Mansion’s “Night of Lights” on December 8th-20th from 5-8 PM! Walk through the decorated Mansion for free, and get some cute pictures too!
Volunteer or Donate to a Local Organization
The holiday season is a time of giving. Taking the time to donate or volunteer for a cause you care about is always meaningful, especially around Christmastime. Luckily, there are many opportunities to get involved around town. Consider donating food, toys, or clothes to local charities such as NourishNC, Novant Health Hospital’s Toy Drive, and Salvation Army. You can also look out for volunteer opportunities to help out those in need, not only this month but into the new year.
Island of Nights New Year’s Celebration @ Kure Beach
This list wouldn’t be complete without including something for New Year's! With 2026 coming right around the corner, check out Kure Beach’s “Island of Nights” New Year’s Eve celebration. Come with family and friends to enjoy fireworks over the water, a fun DJ, and refreshments (free of charge) beginning at 9:00 PM to watch the 2026 countdown live.
Whether you’re exploring lights, giving back, or ringing in the new year, Wilmington is full of festive ways to celebrate. Get out there and make this holiday season unforgettable!
