Once the air starts to chill and the leaves start to fall, I know homecoming season is upon us! One thing I particularly love about hoco week is Hoggard’s annual powderpuff game. Recently, I got to watch this year’s competitive matchup. Not to be dramatic, but I was truly on the edge of my seat the whole time. In case you missed it, here’s a small recap of the nail-biting match.

Before I get into any details, let me explain powderpuff for those who aren’t aware what the big deal is. Powderpuff is designed for junior and senior girls to go head to head in a game of flag football. In addition to this, they also have male cheerleaders who cheer on the players and always give a great half time performance. Overall, it’s all very entertaining to watch. I’d recommend every student to go to at least one powderpuff game in their life.
Now for the game recap. To kick off the game, the seniors started off strong with a touchdown by Avery Fitzgerald. This had seniors in the lead early on in the game, but not for long! During a strategic play, Bethany Bowen took the ball all the way from the middle of the field to the endzone. Talk about a great performance!

Although at halftime it seemed like seniors would take home the win, the juniors were not going down without a fight. With a minute and forty seconds remaining, the juniors surpassed the seniors 14-12. Seniors tried to come back, but Bethany Bowen saved her team by intercepting a potentially game winning throw. At the end, the juniors beat the reigning champs 14-12.
This year’s game showed fantastic work from each side. It was obvious how much work was put in, and I can’t wait to return next year to see if the juniors will keep their legacy going.
