It’s almost that time of year again, homecoming season! One of the most exciting and school-spirited times of the year, this traditional high school event is something Hoggard looks forward to every fall. Here is some useful information and in-depth details to help make this homecoming the best one yet.
Spirit Days:
Spirit week is always a fun way to get involved and show some school spirit. The more people that participate, the more effective and exciting it will be. Word is spreading that some teachers may be offering extra credit . . . so go ahead and put your outfits together, and bring the viking spirit!
The homecoming spirit days will take place from Monday October 14th - Friday October 18th. The spirit day themes include:
Monday- “Red, White, and Blue: Celebrate USA”
Tuesday- “Surf & Turf: Tropical vs. Jersey”
Wednesday- “Pink Out: On Wednesdays We Wear Pink”
Thursday- “Y2K: Dress up in early 2000’s Attire”
Friday- “Blue & White: Go Crazy with Our School Colors”
Powderpuff Game:
We all know, and love, the annual powderpuff game as it’s one of the student council’s biggest fundraisers of the year. The Powder Puff game is a friendly game of flag football between Hoggard’s junior and senior class girls, who are cheered for by a team of junior and senior class boys. Be sure to dress for the occasion, wearing your pink to support the seniors, and blue for the juniors!
This game will take place on Wednesday, October 16th at 7pm at Hoggard’s Scott Braswell Stadium. Tickets are $5, and are required for entry. You may purchase a ticket using the Hometown Fan website ahead of time, or you can visit the app to purchase a ticket at the game. Lastly, be on the lookout for a PT’s food truck-- you just might have the pleasure of purchasing a delicious burger to accompany the exciting game!
Homecoming Football Game:
Some say it’s the highlight of the homecoming experience: the long awaited homecoming football game. This game is unique from the others, not only by the intensity of the game, but by the announcement of the year’s homecoming court. Of the ten senior boys, and ten senior girls who were nominated for the court, only two out of the twenty will be selected for homecoming king and queen, and another two for homecoming prince and princess.
The game begins at 7 PM in the Scott Braswell Stadium on Friday, October 18th, where Hoggard will be fighting for the win against Topsail High School. Seniors are encouraged to sport their togas, a favorite Hoggard tradition. Let’s pack the stands and student section by coming out and supporting Hoggard football!
Homecoming Dance:
This year’s ‘Harvest Moon Magic’ homecoming dance will only be open to current Hoggard students. The dance is being hosted by the Hoggard PTSO, taking place on Saturday, October 19th, in the cafeteria from 7-10pm. Tickets will be available shortly, costing $10 each. Now would be a great time to make plans with your friends for a fabulous Friday night! The dance is a great way to wrap up this year’s homecoming week.
