Will You Ever Be Too Old For Trick-Or-Treating?

Halloween is right around the corner and you know what that means: trick-or-treating! Dashing around door to door and receiving free candy is a lot of fun for kids, but as a high schooler, are you too old?

Trick-or-treating dates back over 2,000 years and originally started out with handing out food and wine, not candy. Halloween was first a festival celebrated on November 1 by the American Celts, which marked the end of the harvest season, and they left out food for the spirits. Also, did you know that kids during the Middle Ages had to sing and dance to earn their sweets? Imagine having to do that now!

Some of my best memories from trick-or-treating days included sorting/trading all of my candy into different piles. I would trade all the Snickers and Almond Joys for M&Ms and Reese's peanut butter cups. It was always a competition to see who could get the most king-sized bars. My pillow case would be full for weeks!

Some of you may be thinking that you can’t dress up and walk up to front doors on Halloween night as a teenager and expect to receive candy like younger kids do, but your neighbors might surprise you–especially if you have a creative outfit. Yes, as you get older you may start losing interest in the idea of trick-or-treating; halloween parties, haunted houses and hayrides are exciting new alternatives. But trick-or-treating can still be something to do with your friends to relive some favorite childhood memories! Buying candy from the store is just not as enjoyable, and who doesn’t want all those free treats?

Whether you’re 6, 16, 26, or 96, you are never too old to trick or treat in my opinion! Hopefully, your neighbors will agree with me and choose to indulge in your Halloween spirit. So, now I leave you with one question: are you going to go trick-or-treating this year?
