Review: The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

By: Lindsey Blackley

May 4, 2021

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS) is one of the newest additions to Disney+, adding to its growing collection of marvel TV shows. According to Disney+, around 1.8 billion people watched the season finale.

It follows Sam Wilson the Falcon and Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier in the after events of Endgame, taking place before Spiderman Far From Home. This TV show brings in conversations of race and the treatment of different communities, immigration and PTSD. The events of TFATWS show what happened at the end of Endgame when Steve gave Sam the shield. Though Sam gave the shield to a museum, this doesn’t last long, because the government decides to give a new white man, John F. Walker, the shield, instead of asking Sam if he will take the shield back and be the new Captain America. As they are dealing with John Walker, they also have to deal with a new group called the Flag-smashers.

It is a show that deals with racism and the underlying tones of white people moving forward off of the backs of people of color. Not only does it move the MCU forward, but it also deals with so many topics that need to be talked about, especially after what happened last summer and in the context of the BLM movement. This show is something that I could watch not only as someone who loves the MCU, but also as someone who is in search of a good show. I give this show a 9/10- go watch The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
