Moxie is a female empowerment movie directed by Amy Poehler and based on the book written by Jennifer Mathieu. When Netflix recently released Moxie, some people were scared that the movie might not adapt the book to the screen well. Netflix did the opposite of that and made Moxie into a great movie, one that has become one of my favorites from the past year.
Moxie talks about how girls are held to a different standard than boys are when it comes to dress code. Just because girls have shoulders, they are taught that because of what we wear, it's our faults that boys can control themselves. And that schools do nothing to change that. In Moxie, the school has a list giving girls a label of how pretty they are and who the nicest is. After the main character Vivian finds her mom’s old Moxie books, she decides to make her own book for the girls at school. This started to get girls to come forward and have a voice of their own. It has become something that has come back. Moxie books have been found in schools and people have become their own Moxie because of the movie. I think everyone needs to go watch Moxie and see what can happen when people come together and stand up for their rights.
