With roaring crowds, bright lights, and spirited themes, Friday night football games are a staple of high school life at Hoggard. But while all eyes are on them, there’s another team preparing to make a powerful statement: The Hoggard men’s Varsity soccer team. This season, they’re coming back stronger than ever. So what should fans expect from this upcoming season? A lot more than just goals.
As they sharpen their skills for the beginning of the season, the team takes on some of the toughest competition across North Carolina, including schools that are typically seen only in playoff brackets. They've already secured impressive wins over schools with top-tier teams like Grimsley and Grainger; both known statewide for producing high-level players.
Head Coach Dwight Findlay expresses his confidence in his team this season. “This is a year that I’m having high expectations for because the players are very motivated… That’s a really strong indicator for me as a coach as to how far the team will go,” he shared.
Of course, no season comes without setbacks. A key player recently suffered an ACL tear, forcing the team to quickly adapt. But instead of faltering, they’ve recalibrated– testing new formations and refining their tactical approach to keep the momentum alive.
With discipline and team chemistry driving them forward, the goal remains the same as every season: bring home a state championship title, which would be a first in Hoggard soccer history.
So come out and support the men’s soccer team this season! Our Viking players’ motivation comes from the hype we bring to the stadium. And with the way this season is looking, the team might just steal the spotlight.
