As football season comes to a close, we are diving straight into basketball season. Last year, the women's basketball team reached the state playoffs' final four, but eventually lost to Wakefield, playing at Wake Forest University. As the 25-26 season begins, with five wins so far, the question of another State appearance looms. I sat down with some of our Lady Vikes to talk about the upcoming season: Sophomores Airlie Altman and Lily Voth.

Interview:

How would you describe the freshman class this year?

Airlie Altman: They’re doing well, learning quickly, and improving every day. They have a lot of potential.

How did the first game go?

Airlie Altman: We won our first game, team chemistry is strong, and we support one another with positive feedback and encouragement, which helps us on the court.

What’s the potential for another state championship?

Airlie Altman: There’s high potential, but we can’t underestimate the other teams, and we need to come out focused and on time.

What are you doing to recover from the final four loss last year?

Airlie Altman:  We started preseason with more intense workouts and conditioning so we can become a January-made team in November. We want to go further than we did last year, and starting early was a crucial part of this process.

Lily Voth: With that said, we need to focus on one day at a time and get the job done. We can’t look too far into the future because we don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we are ever hopeful.

The Vikings are off to a good start and have definite potential for another state appearance, but only time will tell. We can do our part by showing up and supporting them. So head to the next game with high spirits and even higher energy!
