Closing Letter From the Editors

Updated: Jun 11

Dear Readers,

It has been an honor to serve as the Co-Editors-in-Chief of the Viking Chronicle this school year. We came into this year with big dreams for how the influence of the Chronicle would grow, and it has been a joy to watch our vision come to life!

This has been a year of many firsts for the Chronicle. The first time assigning editing roles, the first time (at least in a long time) of distributing printed copies of the issue, and believe-it-or-not our first time editing newspaper articles. When we were chosen as the Co-Editors-in-Chief for the 2023-2024 school year, we didn’t expect that it would feel like being thrown in the deep end. We’ve had to learn through trial and error–how to write engaging articles, how to recruit new writers, how to train new writers, how to edit a website… the list goes on. It has been a huge learning curve through which we have both grown as writers, leaders, visionaries, and learners.

Firstly, we want to thank Ms. Florea, our staff advisor, for all her tremendous support this year. Thank you for your patience, kindness, advice, and for being an incredible teacher. Hoggard is so lucky to have an extraordinary teacher like you in our midst. Thank you to our writers and editors for all your hard work and beautiful writing this year. The words and stories you have shared have truly impacted the Hoggard community.

And lastly, thank you readers. Thank you for making our vision come to life–allowing the Hoggard newspaper to become an integral part of Hoggard student culture. Thank you for picking up the issue, whether it was to read or simply fill out the crossword puzzle (hopefully the former). Thank you for the kind words you have shared with our writers and editors. Thank you for being excited to read the new monthly issue. Thank you for being, well, a reader!

It is hard for us to say goodbye, but we are so excited to introduce Aparna Dhulipala and Luke Hudson as the new Co-Editors-in-Chief for the 2024-2025 school year. They are both incredibly talented writers and leaders, and will bring you some amazing material next year. Our hope is that the Chronicle will continue to grow in even more influence and continue to be a fun, informative, and positive resource for Hoggard students.

Keep writing, keep reading, keep listening, and keep learning!

Signing off for the last time,

Cassidy Thompson and Kate Reiniche
