UV 10, Temperature at 89 degrees, not too humid but not too dry, the group chat agreed to go to the beach. But the big question arises: Wrightsville or Carolina? This is a question that all Wilmingtonians and visitors must ask themselves before loading up the car. Here are the pros and cons of both beaches, including opinions from fellow Hoggard students:

Starting with our local Wrightsville beach, it’s a place where many come for the food. From iconic restaurants such as Bluewater Waterfront Grill, Dockside, and Oceanic, to more casual choices like Tower 7 Baja Mexican Grill and Trolley Stop. Wrightsville is home to the Carolina Yacht Club, a club where some Hoggard students gather to sail. According to senior Diego Padilla, some of Wrightsville’s key characteristics include its “clear waters, a beautiful south end, and a vibrant community based around spots such as Vito’s pizza.” Going along with Diego’s claims of Wrightsville’s clear waters, junior Harper Menius states that “Carolina beach is more polluted and the sand is more shelly.” With many students in favor of Wrightsville beach, others boldly claim Carolina beach’s superiority.

With a boardwalk, an amusement park, and seasonal Thursday-night fireworks, Carolina beach has many enticing attractions. “Carolina Beach has that small town charm that makes it feel like a fun place to be. It also has a lot of really cool restaurants and shops,” says junior Andrew Morris. One of this beach’s most popular attractions is Britt’s Donuts, known for their simple, hot and ready doughnuts. As far as other activities, Carolina Beach also hosts annual festivities. Senior Casey Lee states that she likes Carolina Beach better because of  “the restaurants there and the Christmas tree lighting every year!” With so many events to attend, many students prefer Carolina Beach on their occasional day off.

With both beaches having their own special attractions, most can agree that either beach is an acceptable choice for a perfect summer day. Although, everyone seems to have an opinion on which beach is overall the better pick. So, the question I leave you with is, where are you going to spend your beach day– Wrightsville or Carolina?
